Roadway lighting calculations unlike most other lighting calculations involve calculating luminance of surfaces rather than illuminances. To accomplish this the IES provides "R tables" which report the reflectances of 4 different typical road surfaces. Selecting the proper R value will improve the accuracy of your resulting calculation. Refer to IES RP 8 for more information on Road Surface Classification.
